A Little Contribution

Starting from July or August, we initiate the “Pujor Notun Jama” (new clothes for Durga Pujo) campaign for the upcoming Durga Pujo festival. Our dedicated volunteers proactively gather a list of sizes and names of children from different areas. We acquire the clothes either through donations from generous donors or by purchasing them from vendors. Our experienced volunteers meticulously sort and check the quality of each item, according to the sizes listed. We keep a copy of the list and include another copy in the parcel to ensure accuracy. The clothes are then sent either by courier or carried by a volunteer to the designated location. At the location, the clothes are matched with the list and sorted according to the age groups of the children. We fix a date for the distribution, ensuring it aligns with the Pujor festival. Organized local teams to carry out the distribution drives in their respective areas. The smile, that lights up the innocent faces of the children, gives us the zeal to distribute more and more clothes every year (even during the Covid Pandemic). This makes “Pujor Notun Jama” one of our oldest initiatives at ALC.

Puja Parikrama

What better way to celebrate the Durga Pujo than to bring smiles to the faces of those for whom the festival means little! We at ALC organize pandal hopping, for the little ones who cannot afford the same, through our Inititative “Pujo Parikrama”.
The little ones get to visit different pandals with our volunteers in a luxury bus. They end the day with a sumptuous, yummy meal. We try to bring a smile on their faces for at least one day when the whole state is in a mood for fun and frolic. After all, they too deserve to be happy as Durga Puja is for everyone to celebrate.

Colors of Life

Holi is a festival of joy , mirth, happiness and is celebrated when both man and nature cast off the winter gloom . Holi heralds the arrival of Spring- the season of hope and new beginnings and marks the rekindling the spirit of life .With great enthusiasm and joy, ALC celebrates the festival of colors with the poor and destitute children in a traditional manner using flowers and organic colors. The whole day is spent with children at ALC through various activities like cultural performances, good food keeping in line with the spirit of the festival.
People celebrate the festival by smearing each other with colors. This color of festival unites people and removes all sorts of negativity from life.

Roshni – Gift Drive in Diwali

Diwali is marked by fireworks, good foods and of course new clothes. It is a festival that we all cherish. Ahead of Diwali, ALC distributes new clothes, sweets, school stationeries to the needy children as part of its “Roshni” initiative. The initiative is in line with the one of the goals of ALC that everybody should celebrate and revel in the joy of festivities, especially the less fortunate ones.
Diwali is a festival of lights. It is one of the biggest and grandest festivals celebrated mainly in India. Diwali is a festival commemorated to mark joy, victory, and harmony. The festival teaches us that good always wins over evil and that we must eradicate darkness with light. Festival of Diwali is perceived to bring prosperity, happiness, peace, and positivity.

Secret Santa

All of us are more or less familiar with the Christmas tradition of Secret Santa, where we distribute gift anonymously amongst the people who we know or our co-workers. You can be somebody’s Secret Santa too. As part of our initiative, you can cheer up some poor children and the needy by gifting them something.
In India , it is estimated that nearly 22% of the population still lives well below the poverty line with no means to an end, no regular food at the table. Even more disturbing study that reveals that nearly 40 of every 1000 babies born in India die before they can turn 5 years. This shocking and inextricable mix of poverty and mortality is reason enough for ALC, in Christmas, to be the Secret Santa. We become the purveyor of joy and holiday to cheer to these children. They deserve this shot of positivity in their otherwise bleak existence.

Christmas cheers

Christmas is the time for good tidings for all. So why should only children get to enjoy the Christmas cheers. The elderly, who are into their second childhood, also deserve to enjoy the festivities. We try to make them smile during this time of the year with some gifts and some fun events for them through our initiative Christmas cheers with the old yet dear.
Christmas is a festival that brings joy, hope, and happiness as that marks the end of the year. Why should elderly be left behind when the world is celebrating !! ALC Champs came up with a thought of celebrating and sharing happiness of Christmas with the elderly visiting old age homes with yummilicious cakes and cute Santa caps and make them engage in eye catching cultural programs. The elders enjoy celebrating while the youngsters feel blessed after spending few hours with them.
